Plant Description: This Callistemon has a unique narrow growth habit and is providing homeowners and landscape professionals with a flowering bottle brush solutions for those tight planting areas such as along fence lines, driveways, walls and thin garden beds.
Height & Width: 3m high x 1.3m wide (unpruned), 1.5m high x 60cm wide (minimum pruning height and width, can be pruned wider and taller).
Foliage: Unique foliage that grows to the ground unless pruned away.
Flowers: Red bottle brush flowers from September to November.
Uses: Medium to tall hedge or screen (also as a feature plant).
Position & Tolerances: Full sun to part shade. Drought and frost tolerant. Tolerates radiated heat, so can be planted near tin sheds and fences. Highly Myrtle Rust Resistant.
Soil Type: Most soil types.
Best Planting Time: March to October.
Planting Density: 1-1.5 plants per linear metre (1-3 plants per m²).
Where it thrives: QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS, SA and WA.
Pruning: Prune 1-3 times per year after flowering for a tidy hedge, more regular pruning results in a tidier, denser hedge or screen. Slim™ Callistemon requires very minimal pruning to remain narrow.
Establishment & Extra Care:
- Water as required for 8-13 weeks until established.
- Plant in a well mulched garden, a chunky mulch is recommended.
- Use slow release fertiliser in spring, if required.
