Grey Box™ Westringia fruticosa 'WES04'
Native Shrubs & Ground Covers Range
Plant Description: This is an extremely compact form of Westringia that provides great colour contrast with its grey foliage and white flowers. It is the perfect native compliment for Ozbreed Aussie Box® Westringia 'WES02' PBR, and is the ideal native alternative to English Box.
Height & Width: 30-45cm high x 30-45cm wide (unpruned), 30cm high x 30cm wide (pruned).
Foliage: Stunning grey foliage that contrasts well with green plants.
Flowers: White flowers from September to May.
Uses: Small formal/informal hedges (also as a border plant, in containers and for mass planting).
Position & Tolerances: Full sun to light shade. Very frost and drought tolerant. Will tolerate periodic wet feet, a unique characteristic for a Westringia.
Soil Type: Suits most soil types, will work in sandy to heavy clay soils.
Best Planting Time: March to November.
Planting Density: 2-3 plants per linear metre (3-6 plants per m²).
Where it thrives: QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS, SA and WA.
Pruning: Prune to shape 1-3 times per year after flowering. More frequent pruning will provide a tidier hedge or shape. This plant can be left unpruned and will retain a naturally tidy, compact ball shape.
Establishment & Extra Care:
- Water as required for 8-13 weeks until established.
- Plant in a well mulched garden, a chunky mulch is recommended.
- Use slow release fertiliser in spring, if required.
